1.  Layout

Layout is crucial.  Is it practical as well as aesthetically pleasing.  Do you have workable space to move around in.  Is it divided into different zones to suit your family life. Think about different lighting to define different zones. Does the layout use all the space effectively.

2. Eating

Do you want a full eating dining area with table and chairs or just a breakfast bar and stools.  Have you got room for an island or peninsular for socialising.

3. Work/Office area

Do you need a workspace in the kitchen.  Maybe for children to do homework/art or more of a working home office.

4.  Relaxing

Do you want to have a relaxing space such as a sofa or reading chair.  Do you need a TV.  Do you need a play area. What technical gadgets would you like.

5.  Appliances

What appliances would you like to have.  From double ovens to coffee machines, there is something for everyone’s wish list.

6. Storage

As well as enough kitchen cupboard storage, do you need more. Think about window seat storage or utility cupboards for taller items.  Have you got enough room for a separate utility area / room.

7. Pets

As our pets are part of the family too.  Do they need a space for sleeping / eating in the kitchen.
